Important figures in WVSU coming together in this prestigious event

May 16, 2018 marks the 116th founding celebration of West Visayas State University. Alongside the celebration is the formal inauguration of the New Academic Building funded by the national government with the help of Davao City’s First Congressional District Congressman, the Hon. Karlo Alexei B. Nograles.

WVSU President Dr. Luis M. Sorolla, Jr., was joined by former WVSU president Dr. Lourdes Arañador, Iloilo City Congressman Jerry P. Treñas and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Director Cesar H. Medina in the ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as the releasing of the balloons signifying the celebration of the 116th founding anniversary of the university and the unveiling of the marker for the newly-built academic building.

“Soar high WVSU and get a new life!,” Dr. Sorolla challenged the vibrant crowd “WVSU is an institution where excellence is a tradition. Through this, we intend to live with the tradition for long, long years to come. Let us continue our journey to educational quality and excellence.”  Dr. Sorolla further emphasized that gracing the new academic building which will be used this school year, and implementing the new strategic plan are proof that the university continues to uphold its commitment in for quality service, education, and training. Furthermore, this also signifies hope for a new life for both WVSU and Iloilo City.

Congressman Treñas commended WVSU for upholding academic excellence and showed his support for further development of the university. “I am always proud telling everyone that WVSU is one of the best universities in the country and I am proud that its main campus is here in Iloilo City, the city which I represent in the House of Representatives. WVSU truly deserves all the support from the national government for it has been consistently outstanding in Nursing, Education, and Medicine.”

On this date, WVSU launched its new Vision, Mission, Core Values, Brand, Symbol, and Color. The following are as follows:

Vision: WVSU as the center for educational excellence in the Visayas and the hub for Human Resource Development in the Asia- Pacific Region.

Mission: WVSU is committed to provide holistic education geared towards sustainable growth and development.

Core Values: Scholarship, Harmony, Innovation, Nurturance, Excellence, Service(SHINES)

Brand: WVSU where excellence is a tradition.

Symbol: Urn that extends in a pedestal which symbolizes a WVSU that is grand, royal, and majestic. It is a record of our past, a symbol of the present, and an inspiration for the future. It is an urn on a pedestal which started from a dream that turned into then Iloilo Normal School, bloomed into a college, and eventually into a university.

Color: WVSU Blue which symbolizes tranquility, constancy, and vitality

It took 14 years for the master plan of West Visayas State University to be launched. It has been prepared and approved in 2004, and finally received the ray of light today during the 116th founding anniversary.

With the staunch support from its students, university officials, faculty and staff, alumni, and the city government, the 116th year founding celebration successfully confirmed WVSU’s star to shine anew and mark its new beginning towards its journey to academic excellence.
