OLMC Students attend Seminar on Broadcasting

phinmaIn line with developing the life of student journalist, the University of Pangasinan-PHINMA Group recently sponsored a first ever local media awards and seminar on TV and Radio Broadcasting in Pangasinan last January 31, 2012 at the Sison Auditorium, Lingayen, Pangasinan. The seminar aim to encourage students to commit off meaningful campus learning. First speaker Mr. Rafael F. Baraan, Provincial Administrator stressed that to achieve excellence we must promote and instill the Pangasinan Culture and emphasize that there is no room for mediocrity in mass media. He ended his speech by saying that “If you are not the best you are nothing, don’t stop until you are satisfied in achieving opportunities for excellence”. Mr. Kiko Flores, a representative of Super Radyo Manila has discussed that broadcasting is a 24-hour job and a writers’ job is highly demanding and very competitive. He challenged the participants to read, listen, watch, observe and prepare because ” Failure to prepare is like preparing for failure . Another speaker Mr. Mario Garcia also from Super Radyo emphasized that listening is the first commandment or order to be a good communicator in both oral and written so bear in mind that you are transferring ideas.

As such, he added that to become a good journalist one must practice, always be ready and prepare for it and discover your own style on where you can excel. Students who had attended were: Sharlene Magnaye (Rosarian Editor-in-Chief), Rainier Llamido (Managing Editor), Editha Ballesteros (News Editor), Noel Cera and Jenny Rose Bechayda. They were accompanied by Mrs. Josiemar L. Corpuz, Rosarian Adviser. Delegates said that seminar like this increase their knowledge and learned that as writer time management is important and had also learned that “If you are on time you’re late”. They also had a tour inside the Provincial Capitol and it was a fantastic experience since they were amazed with the buildings architecture.
