Hino Motors offers scholarship for SHS graduates

Hino Motors Ltd., a Japanese manufacturer of commercial vehicles and diesel engines, has partnered with PWC to provide opportunities to the institution’s senior high school graduates for 2020.

The partnership was discussed and settled in a formal meeting last February 21, 2020 between PWC and Hino. PWC was represented by Institutional Planning, Development & Quality Assurance Officer Dr. Reynald Japay, Basic Education Principal Ma. Elena O. Licco, and BED Community Extension Services Coordinator Paolo Naval. On the other hand, Deputy Operating Officer Tashiya Shiozawa, Project Manager Keisuke Senna, and representatives Keisuke Lida and Francis Damian Adorable came on behalf of Hino Motors.

The company is offering a scholarship for at least 25 male SHS graduates from any strand to study at the Toyota Motors Philippines School of Technology, a non-stock, nonprofit mechanic education institution located at Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Hino is funding the said school to start a new course “for the purpose of development of Filipino youth and their career as automotive mechanics who can be active at home and abroad”, in which scholars from partnered schools such as PWC shall serve as the pioneer batch.

The one-year training and education shall correspond to NC IV qualification, after which the student shall be able to lead a vehicle maintenance team and administer electronic control maintenance. At the same time, the scholars will also be studying basic Japanese language.

Scholarship Details

The scholarship covers full education and accommodation expenses for the training period, July 2020 to June 2021. It is open specifically for male SHS students graduating this year, who are 18-20 years old.

Application requirements include current grades (1st-3rd quarter), certificate of good moral, psychological and physical exam, and letter of recommendation from the principal. Submission and processing of applications are expected to be finished by the 3rd week of March.

Applicants shall take an online exam and will be interviewed by a representative from Hino Japan along with their parents.

“We are blessed to have been presented with such a good opportunity,” BED Community Extension Services Coordinator Paolo Naval said, “the partnership introduces an option that our students may consider for their future career.”

An alternative to a 4-year college degree, National Certificates unlock vast employment opportunities and avoid career mismatch. Moreover, the certifications in vehicle maintenance training and Japanese language will definitely provide significant advantage for those who intend to work in Japan.
