School Summary

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University is a Catholic and Jesuit university in Western Mindanao. It is also known by the acronym AdZU. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1912, it is the second oldest Jesuit school in the Philippines. It initially offered primary and secondary education for boys. It became a college in 1952, and a university in August 2001. The Ateneo de Zamboanga began in 1912 as Escuela Catolica, a parochial school ran by Spanish Jesuits

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University is highly committed to admitting the best students and providing increased access to quality higher education. Ateneo de Zamboanga University also provides other forms of financial assistance to qualified students applying or enrolled at the University.

Scholarship Programs Offered:

  • ADZU Centennial Scholarship – awarded to qualified top notchers in the Admission test for Colleges and Universities (ATCU) given by Ateneo;
  • ADZU-BSE Millenium Scholarship for qualified individuals who want to take up BSE/BEED;
  • Academic Scholarship for high school valedictorians and salutatorians;
  • Ateneo Band Scholarship
  • Student Assistantship – For students with great financial need and who can render service to the school
  • All applicants for State Scholarships must apply at the CHED office.
  • A limited number of grants (funded by generous individuals and philanthropic corporations) are also available.

Earlier today, the Campus Ministry Office held the culminating activity of the Vocation Month 2020 with Fr Ro Atilano SJ as the speaker. Fr Ro, an AdZU alumnus, is currently the Head of the JHS and SHS Campus Ministry Office.

On choosing ones vocation he says, 

What can truly make [you] happy is what God wants for [you]
…[in the end] only by standards of love that we will be measured.

The Vocation Month is a month-long celebration on helping students choose their track in terms of which vocation to pursue. The celebration is run by the Campus Ministry Office.

AdZU SUGPAT takes pride in joining other youth-serving organizations - Positive Youth Development Network (PYDN), Siklab Pilipinas and Y-PEER Pilipinas in rolling out the last leg of pre-module 1 (Servant Leadership and Good Governance) and pre-module 2 (Human Rights and Participation) of #BagoTayo: Youth in Innovative Governance. It was held last February 14-15, 2020 at Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City.

20 SK officials and other community youth leaders were engaged during the event. It is primarily aimed at improving the capacity of our SK officials to initiate projects that are innovative and adaptive for children and adolescent youth.

The project is spearheaded by the National Youth Commission, Galing Pook, and UNICEF Philippines.
