It was privatized during the American occupation of the Philippines in the first half of the 20th century. The Ateneo de Manila awarded its first postgraduate degrees in 1949, and received its university charter in 1959.

Today marks the return of some areas to the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). As our current challenging conditions continue, we know that there are those who are out there risking their lives in the service of the people. With deep humility and appreciation in our hearts for all that they do, we say thank youTo all the doctors, nurses and health care workers who face danger every day so that our friends, family members, and colleagues get the care and help they needTo personnel in the markets, stores, banks and other essential establishments who allow us to meet our basic necessitiesTo IT service providers, security guards, garbage collectors, couriers and utility men and women who enable our lives to be less worrisomeTo media personnel and journalists who hold the line for truth and honest reportingTo public and government officials whose loyalty remains with the people and the common goodTo teachers, staff, and administrators of schools who are committed to the quality education of our youth despite the current difficultiesTo priests, religious leaders and spiritual warriors from different faith traditions who enliven our soulsTo the volunteers who offer their time and resources to help in improving the current situationAnd to each and every person who is at the frontline and who speaks, acts, and decides with the welfare of others in mind. You are the reason that, while this pandemic has not yet been won, it has not triumphed over us either. During this time, our hope, trust, and courage are fanned by the acts of service, selflessness, and bravery of all of you who are at the forefront of fighting this pandemic. Please know that you are ever in our prayers, that we stand united with you and that we commit to helping in any way we can in order for us to surpass this together.Thank you for casting your light during this dark time.#aihthankyoudearfrontliners
