School Summary

The Ateneo de Manila University (Filipino: Pamantasang Ateneo de Manila; also referred to as “Ateneo de Manila” or simply “the Ateneo”) is a Roman Catholic private teaching and research university run by the Society of Jesus in the Philippines. It is the oldest Jesuit school in the Philippines and the third-oldest university in the Philippines, tracing its roots to 1859 when the City of Manila handed control of the Escuela Municipal de Manila in Intramuros, Manila, to the Jesuits. It remained a state-subsidized institution through the Spanish colonial period, offering primary, secondary and bachillerato education. It was privatized during the American occupation of the Philippines in the first half of the 20th century. The Ateneo de Manila awarded its first postgraduate degrees in 1949, and received its university charter in 1959.

You may also email them at [email protected]Areté Makerspace is creating PPEs for our medical frontliners. We are currently manufacturing face shields using only our stock materials, but the amount we are producing can increase with your help. We will need the following items:

Acetate films, A4 or larger
Double sided tape (non-foam)
Garter - 3/4” - 1/2” width
Acrylic sheets, 2mm thickness (any color)
Rubber/EVA foam sheets, 2mm-4mm thickness

If you possess any of the materials stated above and are willing to donate them, kindly fill out this google form: bit.ly/Made4Frontliners so we may contact you directly. These materials need not be brand new as long as they are clean and usable. You may also send us a private message or email us at [email protected] if you have any questions or if you have a supplier that you would like to recommend.

The face shields created in Areté are passed on to Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) for distribution to hospitals. What we are manufacturing are not medical grade PPEs, but they have been approved by doctors as an alternative low-risk PPE.

As of tonight, weve packed and delivered over 5,000 meals for our heroic frontliners and for communities in need. We have at least two more weeks to go! In the spirit of Lent, instead of putting more food on our tables, lets share what we have with others. We accept meal pledges and cash donations. Please visit giving.ateneo.edu for information on how to give cash, and contact facebook.com/tangingyamanofficial to give food pledges.
